CBI arrests five people for posting defamatory content against Judges

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five people for allegedly posting defamatory content against Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and Supreme Court. The investigative agency said it has also questioned a Member of Parliament and a former MLA from Andhra Pradesh in connection with the case.

According to a CBI Press Release, “It has arrested two more accused on 07.08.2021 in an ongoing investigation of a case relating to making derogatory posts on social media against judges and the judiciary.”

Present Status of investigation

CBI in its press release said,  To investigate larger conspiracy, It has also examined certain persons including an MP, ex-MLA. The investigation is ongoing into the role of other persons who were not mentioned in the FIR.

The action was initiated after it had registered this case to get objectionable posts removed from the social media platforms, public domains, and a lot of such posts/accounts were removed from the internet. The investigation is still ongoing including through the channels of MLAT, INTERPOL to collect evidence from abroad.
