The Telangana government has successfully completed a virtual hazard identification and risk mitigation (HIRM) workshop. The workshop was held to ensure that the State’s ‘Medicine from the Sky’ project can operate safely and securely.
As reported by Medianama, the proceedings of the HIRM workshop shall be included as part of the Standard Operating Procedures of all the drone technology partners for approval from the DGCA. Seven consortiums have partnered with the Telangana government for the project.
First phase of drone flights with the selected consortiums are expected to begin in the last week of June.
Details of the Workshop
The workshop explored potential hazards and mitigation strategies for the expected trials by discussing the Concept of Operations and Specific Operations Risk Assessment of drone flights in the Vikarabad airspace. The exercise included a detailed description of operations, system checks, communication protocols, flight planning, roles and responsibilities of crew and officials, etc.
The Risk Assessment was undertaken as per the methodology of Joint Authorities for Rule-making on Unmanned Systems (JARUS). JARUS is a group of experts from 63 countries including India. The workshop achieved a final Specific Assurance and Integrity Levels (SAIL) score of II out of VI, indicating low risk. The score was calculated on combining the quantified risks and accounting for strategic and tactical mitigations.
Medicine From Sky
The Government of Telangana had launched the Medicine from the Sky project to ensure delivery of essentials, including medicines and vaccines to counter the challenges posed by infrastructure and lockdowns. The project is operating in collaboration with the World Economic forum.
The project is aimed to enable emergency medical deliveries that could include COVID-19 vaccines and other essentials. As per Gadgets 360, the drone delivery system will focus on an end-to-end ecosystem for drone-based logistic transportation. It will utilize the existing logistics network of Telangana to enable medical supplies in different districts of the state.
Consortiums include Dunzo and Flipkart , who have partnered with the Telangana government for the project.
